Visual Arts | Grades 9-12th Proficient
I will be focusing on these Visual Art Standards: Develop Perceptual Skills and Visual Arts Vocabulary | Analyze Art Elements and Principles of Design S1.1 Identify and use the principles of design to discuss, analyze, and write about visual aspects in the environment and in works of art, focusing on dominance and subordination. S1.2 Describe the principles of design as used in works of art, focusing on dominance and subordination. S1.4 Analyze and describe how the composition of a work of art is affected by the use of a particular principle of design. Examples of Glossary Terms Used in the Visual Arts Content: Balance: Symmetry, Asymmetry, Radial Color Relationships: Monochromatic, Analogous, and Complementary Elements of Art: Line, Color, Shape, Texture, Value & Space In order to assess their prior knowledge I will conduct a pre-quiz using Kahoot: https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/2539416d-ed97-4c85-b5e6-68d6f02cc8b3 With Kahoot I am able to add images, Videos, Sound in order to adapt the quiz to the learning style of my students, I can also adjust the time in order to give my students more time to think. I can also add videos or audio for other students in the classroom. The pre-quiz will include images that will give my students clues. This will be extremely helpful to my ELL students. As they progress they will move onto more difficult games that will take longer to answer because they will require more critical thinking. All quizzes will meet the content area standard for their grade level. To check accuracy we can go over the answers as a class after the students have all chosen their response. I could also assign this as a study practice to students who are fearful of quizzes and then give them a printer final quiz. Or also print it out for them as a study practice sheet. As I assess my students I can then increase the level of difficulty as I see fit. The idea will be to start with vocabulary terms but then as they increase their knowledge they should be able to apply those vocabulary words in their response as they analyze works of art, describe artwork or write about works of art. This way my intermediate and advanced students are also challenged in the same form of quiz and no one is left out.
