Students at Mission Bay High School have learned all about the elements and principles of design. It is now time to put it into practice! Students play with line, shape, form, texture, space, value, and color to create a stunning composition. Students will also use their knowledge of the principles of design: contrast, movement, unity, emphasis, pattern, rhythm, and balance. For their final assessment, students were instructed to balance between positive/negative space, overlap their shapes, vary the size of shapes, fill areas with patterns, include tonal/color gradations, use creativity and watch their craftsmanship.
Students at Bayside Community School are becoming entrepreneurs in their CTE Graphic Design class. Part of having the students join the EdCorps is for them to learn how to operate a business. Students have worked hard to start their business. They have conducted interviews, done research, created a logo and website, used social media to expand kick off their business. Their mission is to bring awareness to environmental issues that are affecting the whole world and to build a conscious society by spreading the word through items with a purpose. Their short term goal is to design one of a kind tote bags made out of canvas. Their reusable bags will include a unique design that speaks to an audience who is interested to learn more about endangered animals, climate change, environmental awareness and more! Their long term goal is to continue to provide items that can be reused and also bring awareness to something that we should all care about.
Teachers, counselors and social science teachers ask me to decorate their doors, bulletin boards and walls. How fun is that?! I love adding an artistic touch to the rest of the classrooms.
Students learn all about package design and create their own design prototypes while exploring different colors and textures.
It is important for me to have my own artwork posted in the classroom. Students are curious to know what artwork have I done. It also shows how one can grow as an artist. I add work that I have done throughout the years to show students that there is always room for learning and growing as an artist. Don't be afraid to show your artwork to your students. It will bring up interesting conversations and your students will appreciate seeing some of your own work as well. Students designed original art linoleum prints that were pressed onto canvas fabric and then sewn to create pillows. The purpose of this assignment was to bring awareness to endangered animals in California. Attached to the pillows you can find a small informational quote from research that the student did in order to learn more about the endangered animal they chose. On October 2017, The Maritime Alliance and the San Diego Unified School District launched the BlueSTEAM Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway in Mission Bay High School and Pacific Beach Middle School. The BlueSTEAM CTE Pathway aims to provide students with:
Additional BlueSTEAM resources:https://bluestemcareers.org/ Initial Kickoff: Beach Day at Mission BayIn our class the students were tasked to sketch a sand sculpture that focused on environmental issues. They were then put into groups where they decided which to execute on our BlueSTEAM field trip to De Anza Cove on October 16. The students then constructed the chosen sand sculpture, incorporating found trash or natural found objects into their sculpture. Maritime Museum Field-trip Mission Bay ninth graders participated in an educational field-trip where students learned all about the history of the boats and ships. The guided tour explored the inside conditions and students observed how things worked inside the boat. Students went aboard the USS Dolphin submarine, The Star of India, and Berkeley. Every student took notes, sketched, and explored while having fun and enjoying time with their peers and educators.
